General Information

Dockets

The date on your citation assigned by the Officer is for an Arraignment Docket.  Arraignments Dockets are always on a Thursday morning starting at 9:00 am and are held at 325 Piedmont Rd in the Court Clerk’s Office located in the Police Station. The Arraignment is before the Court Clerk.  The Judge or Prosecutor will not be present at that time.

If you enter a plea of Guilty or Nolo Contendere (No Contest) you may simply pay the fine and cost on the citation and will be found guilty of the charge or you may post a bond and be set over for a Disposition Docket to talk with the Prosecutor about a Plea Agreement.  If you enter a plea of  Not Guilty, a cash bond will be required before setting your case over for hearing and must be posted at the Arraignment.

You may take care of the Arraignment through the mail or online, but if you want to be set for Disposition you must either contact the Court Clerk’s office by phone or include a note to that effect with your mail and let us know how to reach you.

Disposition Dockets will always be on a Tuesday night, starting at 4:00 pm.  They are held at the Fina Municipal Building located at 314 Edmond Rd NW.  In order to be put on a Disposition Docket you must be assigned to that Docket by the Court Clerk’s Office.

Citizen's Complaints

A citizen of the City of Piedmont may file charges for any violation of the City Ordinances that they witness. In some cases it may be necessary for you to file in order to bring charges against someone, as a Police Officer may not file misdemeanor charges for an offense not committed in his presence. Typical charges filed by citizens are trespass, animal at large, reckless drivers, disturbing the peace, nuisances, and a variety of other complaints.

To file a citizen’s complaint you should come to Piedmont Police Department between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.  The court clerk will give you the necessary forms to file your complaint and explain the process.  There is a $25 filing fee.  The fee will be refunded to you once the case has gone to court, but if you dismiss the case before it goes to court, you will loose the filing fee you have posted.

Once you have filed your complaint it is forwarded to the City Prosecutor for review and approval. If the complaint is found to have merit, a copy of the complaint will be served to the party the complaint is against. They will be required to post bond according to the offense.  Both you and the party the complaint is against will be required to be in Court.  You will be responsible for proving your case against them.  If you have other witnesses you may have them subpoenaed to appear on that court date.  There will be a $15 witness fee charged for each witness you subpoena.

Payments

Check, cash or money orders only are accepted at the window.  If you wish to pay by credit card or debit card, you may go online at Traffic Payment.  To pay by phone call    1-800-444-1187. There will be a fee for paying online or by phone.
